1. Comparative effects of four extracting solutions from the rhizome of great galangal (Alpinia galangal L.) which were extracted by distilled water, methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane at different concentrations ( 1, 0.7 and 0.5% respectively). The distilled water and ethyl alcohol ( 70, 80 and 90%) were used as the control. The study was investigated by counting the dead Spodotera litula and Plutella xylostella larvae affer applied extracted solutions 24, 48 and 72 hours. The experiment with S.litura larvae at 24 hours after application showed statistical differences among number of survival larvae. Volatile oil at 1% and ethyl acetate at 1% gave the highest mortality ( 11.50 and 18.25 survival larvae respectively). There was statistical difference between the rest treatments and control. The experiment with P. xylostlla larrae at 24 hours after application showed the highest mortality from volatile 1, 0.7 and lostella 0.5% respectively.
2. Effects of Crude extract solution of Alpinia sp. Effects of crude extract with 80% alcohol of grcat galangal from Trat, PathumThani and Chiyaphum Provinces were tested with common cutworm larvae at 25 and 50% concentration. Disilled water and alcohol 80% were used as control. The galangal crude extract from Trat at 50% concentration gave the highest mortality Galangal crude extracts at 10, 15 and 20% concentration were tested with diamond back moth larvae. The results revealed the highest insecticide activifties from 15 and 20% concentration. Both treatments showed statistical differences of survival larvae from others.
