The water quality of surface water in 6th Klong Rungsit, Klong 6 Sub-District, Thanyaburi District, Pathumthani Province was investigated between November 2010 – January 2011. It was found that pH  ranged from 4.4 – 6.0, water temperature ranged from 27 – 31 oC, DO values ranged from 4.95 – 5.25 mg/L. BOD and COD were ranged from 11.0 – 15.0 mg/L. and 109 – 115 mg/L respectively. The amount of microorganisms in water were measured from  9.45 x 103 – 7.65 x 103 CFU/mL. The dominant group of microorganisms were bacteria in Gram – positive short rod  and Gram – negative rod. A study on the microbial biofilm formation in 20 liters of biological treatment systems for 27 days was done. It was found that the amount of microorganisms in water in the first treatment were decreased with 78.1 x 103 – 53.1 x 103 CFU/mL. This results showed that media could be supported the microorganisms adhesion. The efficiency of removal organic matter by microbial biofilm were investigated. The results showed that the highest efficiency of removal organic matter was first treatment, based on the COD values that decreased continuously from 111 – 115 mg/L. to 69 – 46 mg/L. The efficiency of removal organic matter were similar in second treatment and third treatment, COD values were ranged from 110 – 56 mg/L. to 93 – 43 mg/L. and 118 – 113 mg/L. to 69 – 45 mg/L. respectively. The lowest efficiency of removal organic matter was the control treatment that were not used the media and microbial efficiency, COD values in this treatment was ranged from 117 – 111 mg/L. to 90 – 89 mg/L. From the experiments showed that using of media with microbial efficiency could be used to removing organic matter from the surface water.
